HERB: SYNTH-INSPIRED GROOVES AND SOULFUL TECHNO
From the nostalgic buzz of '80s synths to the pulsing rhythm of Manila’s underground, Herb is a producer and DJ who crafts dance music with depth, emotion, and intention.
His journey began with a spark hearing Kraftwerk’s Das Model in the early '80s. That one track opened the door to a lifetime of sonic discovery: The Human League, Joy Division, New Order, Depeche Mode. For Herb, electronic music wasn’t just sound it was a gateway into mood, texture, and movement. It wasn’t long before he found himself behind the DAW, exploring how to build those feelings from scratch. “When digital audio workstations became more accessible, I started producing my own music. That’s when I really got serious. Sound design became something I fell in love with, it’s what shapes the identity of every track.”
GUSTO MONG SUMAYAW:
A LOVE LETTER TO THE DANCEFLOOR
During the stillness of the pandemic, Herb released one of his most personal tracks: Gusto Mong Sumayaw—a techno cut that echoes the heartbeat of pre-pandemic weekends and packed dancefloors. Created during lockdown, the track became an emotional release, a call to move, to reconnect, to remember.
“The message is clear it’s about the joy of movement and the connection we find through dance. That feeling is at the core of what I love to create.”
A SCENE IN BLOOM:
MANILA’S UNDERGROUND COMES ALIVE
Post-pandemic, Herb has seen the local underground scene blossom. From fresh collectives and new venues to a rising wave of young producers and DJs, the energy is undeniable. But what makes it special is the balance: the presence of veterans and newcomers alike, co-creating a space that honors the roots while exploring new frontiers.
“I don’t push my music too hard. I just keep creating and sharing when it feels right.”
THE ESSENCE OF HERB
In a world where dance music can often feel overproduced or impersonal, Herb reminds us that it can still be intimate, soulful, and rooted in memory. His sound is a blend of retrospection and progression an homage to the past with eyes on the future.
For him, it’s not about the hype. It’s about staying connected—to the music, the people, and the feeling of movement.
